The South Gondar Zone Agriculture Department has announced that it plans to cultivate more than 1.2 million quintals of summer irrigated wheat in the 2018 fiscal year.
The South Gondar Zone Agriculture Department held a 2018 fiscal year summer irrigation development and natural resource mobilization forum with the relevant bodies.
According to Mr. Mulau Syadau, Chief and Representative Administrator of the South Gondar Zone Administration Office, who attended the forum, summer irrigation wheat development and natural resources work are where we have achieved great progress as a country.
Therefore, he said, in the effort to go from maturity to productivity, mainly summer irrigated wheat is cultivated, so the agriculturists and partners should work carefully.
Mr. Yeshitla Fekade, Head of Agriculture Department of South Gondar Zone, said that this year, we have completed preparatory work to produce 1.2 million quintals of summer irrigated wheat.
With this, 31 thousand hectares of land is planned to be developed, and to make the task easier, they have increased the supply of inputs and the best seeds and are working diligently, he said.
He said that the natural resource development works have been working in our zone since the year 2013.
In addition, he added that the agricultural experts are supporting and monitoring the harvesting of the harvest by making the farmers use modern production equipment, and for the success of the operation, the agricultural family and partners must work hard.
Mrs. Belech Tesfa, an agriculturist from Gemdir district of Guna, who participated in the forum, stated that they have started working on the plan to cultivate 500 hectares of land in 5 kebeles.
The head of the Farta District Agriculture Office, Mr. Madnew Birhan, said that they plan to develop 4,600 hectares, and that they have started to clear irrigation canals and use the water options in the district.
Finally, it was stated that there is no problem in the supply of resources in the zone, realizing that summer irrigated wheat cultivation plays a major role in our struggle for food self-sufficiency as a country, it is stated that the agriculturist should be present at the workplace and do his work with focus.
